Patrick realized he was a battered writer when he begrudgingly took his freshman comp class at Millikin University taught by Dr. Terry Shephard. He hated to write but didn’t really know why. It was common then for writing to be used as a punishment in schools for behavior or other misdemeanors. Patrick was a victim of this and since then saw writing in a whole new light.
Mostly he writes plays but has been working on a Novel for many years that he hopes one day to get published. Below is a list of some of his works.
Key Changes – written with Todd Hertz
This is an autobiographical existentialist play about learning who you are before extending yourself romantically to someone. Produced once at North Central College, in Naperville, IL.
Class Reunion
This is a farcical audience participation play about a class’ ten year reunion. Many characters are in this play from a mobster to a 100 year old teacher who still teaches. A great play for high school or junior high. It has been produced at Oswego East High School in Oswego, Il and as High School Reunion (Girls School Version) at the Clinton Area Showboat Theatre for the CASTteen Program. Brats
This is a dramatic play about issues facing kids everyday from suicide to peer pressure. This play was inspired when a student of Patrick’s took his life. This play does not glorify bad kids, but stresses second chances and making good choices. This play has been produced by the CASTteen program at the Clinton Area Showboat Theatre in July 2009. This show chronicles the journey the Clinton Area Showboat made since its birth in 1934 as a coal hauler to its current home in Clinton, IA. This is a fun children’s story as 3 kids get lost and travel through time. This play has pieces of Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure and Scooby Doo all rolled into one great show.
